SPICE UP YOUR BREAKFAST...

Looking to find ways not to be bored with the most important meal of the day?

Try adding a little spice to your breakfast. I love adding spices to my oatmeal including cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and honestly any other warm spices like nutmeg or allspice. They not only add a heartiness to your oatmeal but they are anti-inflammatory and help stabilize your sugar levels. And then I like to meal prep for a couple of days so I will make a couple servings of it and keep it in the frig. I love cold oatmeal just as much as I love it hot! Having it the frig means it's ready to go and all I have to do is add my favorite toppings!

Spiced Oatmeal:

Ingredients:

2 cups water

1 cup oats

1-2 tsp. of your favorite spices. Create your own blend using cinnamon, cardamon, ginger, allspice and nutmeg.

Instructions:

In a pot, bring water to a boil. Add oats and spices to pot and mix everything well. Heat should be on a medium heat with water just slightly bubbling. Oatmeal is done when all of the water is completely into the oats -- ta da... Oatmeal!

Don't Forget the Toppings!

My oatmeal is not complete unless I have toppings on it. Here are some of the things I like to add to my oatmeal...

  • Berries, any kind

  • Chopped Nuts, Pecans, Almonds, Pistachios or Walnuts

  • Cocoa Nibs

  • Shredded Coconut

  • Almond Milk, the good kind, just almonds and water...

  • And if you haven't tried dried mulberries, they are a must! So yummy.
